BMW Motorrad is all set to expand its 1300cc motorcycle family with the global unveiling of the all-new R 1300 RT on 29 April 2025. Designed as a sporty bagger perfect for long-distance touring, the R 1300 RT will replace the current R 1250 RT.
Updates
Just like every other model in BMWโs 1300 family, the R 1300 RT will feature major upgrades over its predecessor. In fact, it is being called an all-new motorcycle rather than just an update.
One of the biggest changes is the switch from a tubular steel frame to a sheet metal chassis. This change should help the bike become lighter and easier to handle. A cast aluminium sub-frame will also be part of the structure, promising better strength and balance.
Engine
Powering the R 1300 RT will be the same 1300cc boxer-twin engine from the BMW R 1300 GS. This motor churns out 145bhp at 7,750rpm and 149Nm of torque at 6,500rpm.
Power will continue to be sent to the rear wheel via a shaft drive system paired with a six-speed gearbox. Interestingly, BMW is also said to be developing an automatic transmission for the R 1300 RT, although it is not confirmed if it will be available from launch.
Design
While BMWโs teaser keeps most details under wraps, earlier spy shots have revealed quite a bit about the R 1300 RTโs styling. Expect a vertically stacked LED headlight, LED DRLs, and a transparent touring visor up front.
The overall fairing design looks new but still retains the heavy, muscular presence of the older R 1250 RT. Optional touring-friendly accessories like panniers and a top box will also be offered, making it a proper tourer right out of the gate.
Features
The R 1300 RT will come loaded with modern electronics. Riders can expect multiple ride modes, advanced traction control, a large TFT screen with smartphone connectivity, ABS with different modes, and more.
Up front, the bike will continue with BMWโs signature telelever suspension setup, known for offering superior stability and rider comfort, especially on long highway trips.
Hereโs a quick comparison table for easy reference:
