Hyundai is preparing to roll out the mid-life facelift of its electric SUV, the Ioniq 5, in India. First launched over three years ago, the Ioniq 5 quickly established itself as a flagship electric vehicle in Hyundaiโs global and Indian lineup. Now, itโs getting a significant updateโboth in design and under the skin.
Design
Spy images confirm that the facelifted Ioniq 5 will feature a fresh set of alloys, but the overall design language remains sharp and futuristic. Internationally, the car is slightly longer by 20mm, now measuring 4,655mm in length. Other dimensions remain the same, so while the change is subtle, it does add to the presence of the car.
Globally, the facelift also introduces the NACS (North American Charging Standard) port, giving Ioniq 5 access to Teslaโs Supercharger network in the US. While this particular feature might not apply to India, it reflects Hyundaiโs push towards global compatibility and innovation.
Battery and Performance
One of the biggest upgrades is the new 84kWh battery pack for the top variant. This joins the existing 63kWh option, and both can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes using a 250kW DC fast charger.
Powertrain options include:
- 63kWh RWD: 221.91bhp, 350Nm, 394.28km range
- 84kWh RWD: 221.91bhp, 350Nm, 511.77km range
- 84kWh AWD: 315.61bhp, 605Nm, 466.70km range
Only the 63kWh version is limited to a single motor (rear-wheel drive). The larger 84kWh variant will be available in both RWD and dual-motor AWD configurations. Itโs not yet confirmed which of these variants will be offered in India.
Interior
The Ioniq 5 facelift also brings updates to the cabin. You get a new eight-way powered driverโs seat with lumbar support, 60/40 split folding rear seats, and a more intuitive cabin layout. A 12.3-inch touchscreen sits at the center, now offering wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A repositioned wireless charging pad and dual-zone climate control add further comfort and convenience.
It also gets four drive modesโEco, Normal, Sport, and Snowโmaking it adaptable to various driving conditions.
Features
Hyundai hasnโt held back on tech. Some standout features include:
- Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA2)
- Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW)
- Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) with haptic steering feedback
- Parking Distance Warning (front and rear)
- Blind Spot Monitor
- OTA (Over-the-Air) updates
These add-ons make the Ioniq 5 one of the most technologically advanced electric SUVs in its class.
Safety
Safety updates include structural improvements such as bodyside reinforcements and electronic locking systems. The vehicle continues to offer eight airbags, ESC, traction control, VSM, TPMS, child safety locks, and power window lock-outs, among others. Thereโs also a panic alarm for added peace of mind.
The facelifted Ioniq 5 is clearly more than just a cosmetic updateโitโs an evolution. With a larger battery, extended range, upgraded tech, and new features, Hyundai is looking to strengthen its position in the electric SUV segment. What remains to be seen is which configurations make it to the Indian market, and at what price point.
